A lot of people think that the only way to lose weight is by exercising. However, this isn't always true! In fact, it's not even close to being true. It turns out science has found that exercise isn't great at helping you lose weight - but it's still important for overall health.

The reason it's difficult to say whether exercise can help you shed pounds has to do with how different people process food and calories differently, he explains. "If someone is overweight and inactive, then they have a higher metabolic rate [the amount of energy your body uses] than someone who isn't overweight." That means that when you eat fewer calories than you burn off over time—a process known as losing weight—the slimmer person will see results sooner than the heavier one. Plus, people who carry around extra pounds might also have a lower resting metabolic rate than those whose weight falls within normal ranges (those considered healthy), according to research published April 2017 in Obesity Reviews."
